As our second time at Hana Don's North York location, we had a certain level of expectation prior to arriving at the restaurant; unfortunately, our experience this time was a bit underwhelming. When we first arrived, we were greeted well by the staff and, who we believe to be, the manager. The manager was very friendly, smiling all the time, and was very tentative; however, our waitress was the complete opposite. She seemed uncaring and never once smiled, it was as though she hated her job and didn't care if people saw.
The restaurant however is in a great location situated right inside Fairview Mall. It's able to seat mostly smaller groups but I'm they would be able to move tables around to accommodate bigger groups as well. The pricing isn't too high for the overall quality we got. If you're in need of a place to eat before the movie or after a long day of shopping, we do still recommend you come and try it for yourself.
⭐Aburi Don ($25)⭐
Seared salmon, scallop, white fish, and fish egg on premium sushi rice
Favorite of the meal
All the fish in this dish paired very well with the sauce and rice. Too bad we didn't get to know what the sauce was but it was very good! Highly recommend this dish if you go try out Hana Don.
The fish seemed more fresh than some of the other fish we had in the other dishes that we ordered.

Large Premium Hana Don ($39)
Assortment of Hana's finest seasonal seafood with whole abalone on premium sushi rice
As a sashimi lover, I was most excited for this dish; I mean, come on, it came with abalone! But to my disappointment, that was the worst part of the dish. I have never had an abalone I disliked but this one was so fishy. It tasted as though it was frozen and defrosted (which it probably was) but it had gone bad already.
After the disappointing abalone, I was excited to try Uni, as it is another favorite. When I first saw it, it looked way too dark, like something was wrong with it, but luckily it tasted fine and wasn't too bad. For sure it wasn't fresh in any aspect, but it could not have been any worse than the abalone. The rest of the fish was normal, nothing good or bad to say about it.
Fancy Roll - 8pcs ($18)
Spicy salmon, crab meat, avocado, crunch, tobiko & mango w/ soy bean paper served with Thai spicy sauce
The name needs a change. Overall this "fancy roll" was anything but. The sauce seemed quite cheap, like something you would find at an all-you-can-eat buffet; and the ingredients inside didn't taste well together. The whole dish was very disappointing.
